Love Hurts

Saturday, January 9th, 2010

No image for this one so IMDB link here.  This is one of those movies I could have done without.  Kinda lame, kinda touchy-feely in the end.  Kid teaches dad a few things, then dad teaches kid a few things, falls back in love with his wife blah blah.  Has Carrie-Anne Moss in it, Jenna Elfman, and a small part by Janeane Garofalo.  I’m going to have to put this on the deferred list and save you some time, there are much better movies out there. Unless you watch a lot of movies like me, skip it. 5.0/10.

Arlen Faber

A quirky comedy with a little romance in it.  arlenfaberA few recognizable faces, most notably Jeff Daniels.  This is the kind of movie they would show on TNT after awhile…  It’s not terribly bad, just not the greatest.  I thought it was OK.  If you like movies like Something About Mary or so, it kinda falls into that category.

6.1/10.

2012

Thursday, January 7th, 2010

2012A little over 2 hours of close calls, good CGI, and action action action!  Lots of well known actors, John Cusack, Amanda Peet, Oliver Platt, Woody Harrelson, Danny Glover, Oh my!

What can I say, this film lived up to the hype.  I’m not sure why such a lame score on IMDB, I liked it, it was exactly what I expected it to be.  This would be an awesome Blu-Ray watch I’m sure.  I’m going to give it a 7.5/10.

The Limits of Control

Wednesday, January 6th, 2010

limitsofcontrolUgh.  2 Hours later and still confused…  Films don’t get more arty then this with deep underlying cryptic political messages.  I guess some people are into stuff like this.  I’m not, unless the movie is a series I don’t like getting to the end of the movie and not understanding fully what really happened.  Watch it again?  What for?  Just let it go.  I thought that even a small appearance by Bill Murray even with his 3 minute presence would have done something for the film.  Guess not.  I recommend avoidance on this one.  4.0/10.

The Vicious Kind

Tuesday, January 5th, 2010

viciouskindThis movie starts out looking a little artsy, but quickly turns into a quirky relationship blunder movie.  A few known actors, Brittany Snow, Adam Scott, and JK Simmons.  This movie was pretty good, at first I was wondering where they were going with the plot but it turned out pretty good.  If you like movies like Bottle Rocket, Royal Tenenbaums, or Running with Scissors this is kinda like that feel.

I give it a 6.7/10.

Wonderful World

wonderfulworldA little darker than usual movie for Matthew Broderick to be in.  Kind of quirky, but it delivers.  It was a decent flick, worth a dvd/netflix rental.  6.5/10.

Whatever Works

Sunday, January 3rd, 2010

whateverworksHmm, I’m having mixed feelings about this film.  I feel like I should have liked it more, but I found it kind of dull.  I think about it now and that’s usually how I feel about other Woody Allen movies.  You can sense the Woody Allenness of it, but it plays out a lot like Larry David’s Curb Your Enthusiasm.  I can’t say I personally recommend watching this movie if you have anything else to watch.  If you do, you won’t feel like time is wasted, you just leave the movie as you went in, like nothing happened.  5.5/10.

Inglourious Basterds

Saturday, January 2nd, 2010

basterdsHere we go with another 153 minute movie. Odd coincidence, however, this one doesn’t make you keep watching the clock hoping it will end.  The time passes by rather smoothly, it might be partially due to the fact you spend a good amount of time reading subtitles.  This isn’t Tarantino’s finest work , you can tell he was there though.

Brad Pitt’s character makes americans seem like dumb rednecks.  And I though this movie was supposed to be a Comedy.  Turns out it’s listed as a Drama.   Well I found certain parts funny.  I do see the how it’s a Drama.

The movie was good, not as good as what I heard before I watched it, but it was good.  I didn’t like how the movie was based around Private Zoller’s movie about his feats, I … just didn’t like that guy’s character.  He was the glue but, I dunno.

I found the movie entertaining, and it did well at the distribution of time throughout.   7.4/10.

Funny People

funnypeopleFor a movie with the word funny in it, it turned out to be more Drama.   My biggest gripe with this movie is the fact it was 153 minutes.  A long movie doesn’t have to FEEL long, the second half, where it starts going downhill, I kept looking at the clock and saying c’mon only 20 minutes left…. ok 19 minutes left… how is there still 18 minutes left ?

I would have liked to have seen more Aziz Ansari, he’s a funny guy.  Oh and less Whiney Seth Rogen.  Did I mention that he was real whiney in the movie ?

This movie could almost be a documentary about Adam Sandler, which it’s kinda portrayed as, and they do a good job with that aspect.  It just seem to linger on and suck towards the end though.

Best I can give this one was a 6.0/10.  If you shave out about 30 minutes of suck maybe the rating would go up.
